Hoima District leaders launched two road projects valued at Shs201 billion during ceremonies in Buseruka, Bombo, and Kisukuma sub-counties, emphasizing the need for increased government funding to address rural infrastructure gaps. The initiatives include a 5-kilometer road connecting Gamugole, Lyato, and Kikyora in Buseruka Sub-county (Shs73 million) and a 12-kilometer route linking Haibale, Hanga, and Buhirigi across Bombo and Kisukuma sub-counties (Shs128 million). Hoima Resident District Commissioner Rogers Mbabazi highlighted the projects’ role in advancing government programs and economic activity, while District Chairperson Uthuman Mugisha Mubarak reiterated the leadership’s commitment to improving road networks despite resource constraints.
The road developments, funded through the district’s allocated budget, aim to strengthen connectivity between communities, markets, and essential services like schools and health facilities. Hoima Woman MP Beatrice Wembabazi stressed the importance of community participation in project implementation to ensure quality outcomes, noting that roads are critical for rural livelihoods. District Speaker Jackson Mulindambura Magambo called on Members of Parliament to advocate for higher road funding to local governments, arguing that improved infrastructure would enhance service delivery. Senior Assistant Secretary Stephen Mwesigwa urged beneficiaries to leverage the roads for agricultural trade, warning that underutilization would undermine the investment.
Hoima District officials acknowledged existing challenges in extending services such as water, electricity, and healthcare to remote areas, vowing to continue lobbying for expanded support. The projects align with broader efforts to boost economic activity in the region, with leaders citing improved access as a catalyst for growth. District Executive Committee members and local officials, including Buseruka District Councillor Godfrey Komakech and Bombo/Kisukuma Female Councillor Darlison Kusiima, attended the launch, underscoring the collaborative approach to infrastructure development.
The initiatives reflect Hoima’s strategic focus on rural connectivity, with leaders citing the government’s Shs486 billion allocation for local services as a foundation for further progress. However, district officials remain vocal in their demand for additional resources to address systemic underdevelopment.
