The three-day event, themed "Developing a Nigeria Police Roadmap for Effective Management of Security During Elections," brought together senior police officers, government officials, and experts to address emerging challenges ahead of the 2027 polls. The conference concluded on Wednesday with the establishment of a dedicated election security task force and a focus on predictive policing strategies.
The communique, presented by Force Public Relations Officer Ani Iniedu, detailed the police’s commitment to creating a task force with defined responsibilities, timelines, and performance metrics. The force resolved to implement a predictive and preventive framework using historical data, current intelligence, and post-election reviews to identify flashpoints and update operational plans. A secure central database will also be established to digitize election-security data, ensuring real-time access and analysis. This initiative aims to enhance preparedness for potential threats, including voter intimidation and logistical disruptions.
In addition to data-driven strategies, the police pledged to accelerate the transition to smart, digital, and intelligence-led policing. This includes standardizing processes, integrating data systems, and deploying artificial intelligence for investigations, crime analysis, and threat detection. However, the communique emphasized that technology would complement, not replace, professional judgment, with safeguards for data protection, supervisory review, and audits. The closing ceremony saw certificates awarded to IGP Abdulaziz Muhammad Disu, Uzodimma, NBA president Badejo-Okusanya, and other facilitators, recognizing their contributions to the event.
IGP Disu charged senior officers to translate the conference resolutions into actionable strategies, urging a "train-the-trainers" approach to cascade knowledge to lower ranks. He emphasized the police’s loyalty to the Constitution, the law, and the Nigerian people, rather than any political entity.
