Tango Brook Technologies, a Nigerian energy technology firm, has expanded its digital fuel management platform to five African markets—Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and Zimbabwe—as businesses grapple with rising energy costs and fuel spending. The move marks a shift from a domestic fuel management solution to a broader African energy-spend management platform, according to the company. The expansion follows the 2025 launch of the Tango Fuel App, a digital tool designed to provide businesses with secure and traceable control over fuel purchases and energy expenditure.

Since its initial product rollout in September 2025, Tango Brook has attracted over 150 corporate clients, including Flour Mills of Nigeria, Seven-Up Bottling Company, LAGRIDE, United Bank for Africa, CardinalStone, and ICS Outsourcing. The company reported accelerated growth between January and August 2026, with wallet funding surging 12.4 times, revenue rising 46.7 percent, and app transactions and active transacting cards each growing 3.4 times. These figures highlight the increasing demand for digital tools to manage fuel purchases, particularly in sectors reliant on petrol and diesel for transportation, generators, and operations.

Peter Atuma, chairman of Tango Brook Technologies, emphasized the challenges businesses face in emerging economies, where organizations spend billions on fuel yet depend on manual processes that lead to fraud, leakages, and lack of visibility. The company has broadened its offerings beyond digital fuel payments, introducing Tango Fleet Management in 2026—a telematics solution for vehicle tracking, route optimization, and operational monitoring—and Tango GenVault, which tracks generator runtime, diesel consumption, and refueling events. These tools integrate fuel payments with fleet and generator data, enabling finance and operations teams to monitor energy expenditure from a single platform.

Tango Brook’s expansion reflects a strategic shift from fuel and fleet management to energy technology and intelligence. Obiajulu Wemambu, managing director, Africa, stated that the company has focused on building infrastructure, partnerships, and governance to scale across multiple markets. “One of the most significant milestones in our journey has been the development of the infrastructure, partnerships, and governance required to scale beyond our original market,” Wemambu said. The company also secured ISO 27001:2022 certification, an international information-security standard, to handle larger volumes of corporate transactions and data.

David Ita, CEO of Tango Brook Technologies Nigeria, who assumed leadership in January 2026, highlighted the company’s efforts to rebuild its technology architecture and strengthen key partnerships during its first year. The next phase will focus on leveraging data and predictive analytics to help customers identify energy leakages and improve operational efficiency. Tango Brook plans to introduce additional features for small and medium-sized businesses and individuals seeking greater control over energy costs.

The expansion comes as African businesses face persistent challenges from fuel costs, unreliable power supply, and transportation expenses, which significantly impact operating costs. Tango Brook aims to move beyond tracking fuel transactions to providing businesses with data on energy consumption patterns. The company’s long-term goal is to become an energy-spend management platform across emerging economies, with Africa as the foundation for its expansion.

Tango Brook’s growth underscores the growing reliance on digital solutions to address energy inefficiencies in Africa. By integrating fuel payments with fleet and generator monitoring, the company positions itself to help businesses reduce costs and enhance transparency. As it expands, Tango Brook’s success will depend on its ability to adapt to local energy, mobility, and commercial conditions while maintaining robust data security and operational governance.

The company’s efforts align with broader trends in Africa’s digital economy, where innovation is increasingly focused on solving infrastructure and operational challenges. With its expanded footprint and enhanced tools, Tango Brook is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of energy management on the continent.

Tango Brook’s expansion highlights the intersection of technology and energy in Africa’s evolving business landscape. As more companies adopt digital tools to manage costs and improve efficiency, the demand for integrated solutions like Tango Brook’s is expected to grow. The company’s focus on data-driven insights and localized adaptation positions it to address the unique needs of African markets.

The initiative also reflects the increasing importance of information security in digital platforms. Tango Brook’s ISO 27001:2022 certification underscores its commitment to safeguarding corporate data as it scales operations. This certification is critical for building trust with clients and partners in regions where data privacy and cybersecurity remain pressing concerns.

Tango Brook’s journey from a domestic fuel management solution to a pan-African energy technology provider illustrates the potential for African startups to scale globally. By addressing systemic challenges in energy consumption and operational efficiency, the company is contributing to the broader goal of economic resilience and sustainable growth in emerging markets.
