Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Thursday launched the Ondo AI system, an artificial intelligence-powered platform designed to manage civil servants’ payroll, pension, and personnel records. The initiative, unveiled at the Cocoa Conference Hall of the Governor’s Office in Akure, marks a significant step toward modernizing administrative processes in the state. The system replaces manual procedures with automated workflows, aiming to reduce bureaucratic delays and enhance transparency in government operations.
The Ondo AI platform builds on the state’s earlier deployment of Ondo Pay, an AI-enabled HR and payroll system launched in 2023. Since its implementation, Ondo Pay has disbursed N9.7 billion in pensions and gratuities to 2,802 civil servants, addressing outstanding obligations across the mainstream civil service, secondary schools, and state parastatals. The new system expands this digital infrastructure to include real-time personnel data, automated retirement transitions, and self-service portals for employees.
According to Godwin Odoma, Managing Director of SmartApps IT Limited, the developer of the platform, the system allows civil servants to access payslips, track retirement timelines, and monitor pension eligibility. “With the self-service application, you don’t have any reason to say you don’t know when you are going to retire,” Odoma stated. The platform also alerts authorities when employees approach retirement, ensuring seamless pension migration and minimizing payment delays.
Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized that digitization is not merely about adopting technology but transforming governance. “We cannot expect the 21st-century public service to operate an analogue system indefinitely,” he said, underscoring the need for modern infrastructure to support effective decision-making. The governor urged civil servants responsible for data entry to maintain accuracy, as the system’s efficacy depends on reliable information.
Segun Odusanya, the State Head of Service, described the platform as a “major step toward modernizing the public service.” He highlighted its role in improving workforce planning, accelerating administrative processes, and reducing inefficiencies linked to traditional record-keeping. The system also includes digital archives of civil servants’ records, such as appointment documents, academic qualifications, and disciplinary reports, accessible only to authorized officials.
