A Kenyan businesswoman has put controversial preacher Reverend Dishon Mirugi back in the spotlight after sharing private messages she says show the married pastor making advances towards her.
The woman, identified in reports as wholesale Mitumba trader Idah Arunga, claims Mirugi targeted her because she is financially successful. She rejected the advances and published screenshots of their alleged exchange online.
The explosive claims come months after Mirugi and his estranged wife, businesswoman Grace Wangare Muthuma, separated again, reopening public scrutiny of the preacher’s turbulent personal life and a string of controversies that have followed him beyond the pulpit.

The latest controversy began when Arunga shared screenshots that she said showed Mirugi attempting to establish an intimate relationship with her.
She rejected the approach and publicly challenged the preacher, warning him to keep away and claiming she understood his methods.
Her central allegation is that financially stable women can become targets for men who see their success as an opportunity.
That claim has given the latest scandal a wider dimension.
It is no longer simply about a pastor sending questionable messages to a woman. It raises uncomfortable questions about the boundaries between religious influence, personal relationships, and the financial power some successful women possess.

In 2023, he became the subject of intense public scrutiny after Pastor Elizabeth Wanjiru Githigi, described as his former lover, was found dead inside his Kahawa West home.
Police investigated the death, and Mirugi was arrested and taken to court while detectives pursued the circumstances surrounding Wanjiru’s death.
The case generated enormous public interest after Mirugi told investigators that he found Wanjiru hanging inside his wardrobe after returning home.
He said he removed her body and drove to a medical facility before moving between police stations seeking assistance.
A post-mortem examination established pressure around Wanjiru’s neck, although reports at the time said it was not immediately conclusive whether the pressure resulted from hanging or strangulation.
Wanjiru’s family questioned the circumstances surrounding her death and called for justice.
The controversy placed Mirugi under enormous public pressure.
He was eventually cleared following investigations, according to subsequent reports, and later rebuilt his public life.
In March 2024, he married Grace Wangare Muthuma, a prominent businesswoman and founder of Nairobi Outpatient Gulf Hospitals.
Marriage Drama Put Mirugi Back Under the Microscope ¶

By 2026, reports emerged that Mirugi and Muthuma had separated again.
