Kenyan deejay DJ Kriss Darlin, whose real name is Christone Odhiambo, recently vied for the Kibra seat as an ODM candidate, but unfortunately, he came fifth in the nominations with 417 votes.

On September 10, 2019, it was reported that Kriss Darlin had lost his job at NTV after hosting a reggae show on the station. His contract was terminated following his decision to vie for the Kibra by-election.

"Kris has made his decision that he is getting into politics and as per the editorial policy, he left us with no choice but to terminate his contract as the host of the Jam Rock Reggae Show. This decision was mutual between both parties. We wish him well in his future endeavors. He will, however, host two more shows to bid the fans bye,” Justus Tharao, NTV’s Head of Production and Programming, confirmed.

Aside from losing his job, Kriss Darlin also lost sleep campaigning day and night, as well as money spent on campaigning, including paying nomination fees and giving handouts to his supporters.

His decision to join politics also led to a loss of credibility and trust from his fans, who might have turned against him due to his new career path. Many believe that politics is for 'corrupt and greedy' people, and Kriss Darlin's actions ignited mixed reactions online.

Before the nominations, Kriss Darlin knelt before ODM party leader Raila Odinga begging for a nomination ticket, which further damaged his reputation and dignity.
