Mawia Kisila, a Machakos native, has forged an unconventional career path as both a British Army commander and a music industry entrepreneur. His journey began in 2003 when, after finishing high school, he attempted to join Kenya's Defense Forces but faced bureaucratic obstacles despite his father's military connections.
"I embarked on joining KDF in 2004, but there was a lot of bureaucracy," Kisila recounted to Chams Media TV in 2021. "My father, a senior officer, advised me to pursue opportunities in the UK after I struggled to enlist." This led to two failed visa applications before he successfully joined the British Army in 2008 after passing rigorous physical tests, including a 2.4km run in under 9 minutes and 30 seconds.
Over 14 years of service, Kisila rose from recruit to officer, participating in missions across Afghanistan, Canada, and Europe. His military career intersected with his entertainment work when he founded Bless Entertainment in 2014. The company has hosted comedians like Eric Omondi and MC Jessy, a childhood friend who inspired his DJ career.
Kisila's dual roles have drawn attention, particularly after he met Prince Charles during his service. He credits his early exposure to music through church activities and plans to transition to a government advisory role in Kenya after completing his military service.
