Published on September 10, 2019, a police report revealed that two officers were on patrol in Maziwa, Kasarani, when they shot in the air after being confronted by a crowd. A stray bullet hit a 2-year-old and 11-month-old toddler.
The police statement claimed the officers were shooting in the air to scare people who were following them. However, witnesses disputed this account, stating the officers were involved in an altercation with some women at a Chang'aa den.
Locals claimed the officers, who were well-known in the area, had an argument with a woman while on their bribe collection rounds. A witness took to social media to narrate the incident, stating that the child was shot twice with a Kenya government-issued AK 47 service weapon.
The police said the accused officers are in lawful custody, awaiting presentation in court.
