Philip Etale, a senior official in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), has resigned amid allegations that he was bribed to influence the outcome of the Kibra by-election.
Etale was accused of receiving Sh2 million to ensure Imran Okoth won the ODM ticket in the Kibra by-election.
However, Etale has denied the allegations, stating that he will resign if the WhatsApp messages exchanged with Imran Okoth are proven to be true.
Etale claimed that he had not been involved in the Kibra by-election politics and had not engaged in any discussions with the candidates vying for the ODM ticket.
Imran Okoth won the ODM ticket after beating 10 other candidates in the party's primaries.
He will now face off against candidates from Jubilee and ANC in the by-election scheduled for November 7.
Etale's resignation comes after he was accused of using his position to influence the outcome of the by-election.
Etale's statement read: 'I am ready to resign if the WhatsApp messages exchanged between me and Imran Okoth are proven to be true. I have won many elections in my life and I will not engage in activities that are against the law.'
Etale also stated that he had not engaged in any discussions with the candidates vying for the ODM ticket, saying: 'I have never spoken to any candidate, including Imran, in a way that could be seen as influencing the outcome of the election.'
