Kibra MP By-Election: Ken Okoth's Brother Imran Wins ODM Ticket

Published on September 9th, 2019, Imran Okoth, the younger brother to the late Kibra MP Ken Okoth, has emerged victorious in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) nominations for the Kibra parliamentary by-election.

Imran secured 4,382 votes, leaving behind nine other aspirants who were vying for the ODM ticket. Peter Orero came in second with 1,218 votes, while John Otieno trailed behind with 906 votes.

Other contenders included Ben Musungu (524 votes), Christone Odhiambo (417), Tony Ogola (381), Stephen Okello (228), Brian Owino (127), Reuben Ojijo (52), and Eric Obayi (45).

With his nomination set to be finalized, Imran will face off against McDonald Mariga of Jubilee Party, Eliud Owalo of Amani National Congress (ANC), and Khamisi Butichi of Ford Kenya in the by-election.

The Kibra MP seat fell vacant following the death of Ken Okoth, who passed away on July 26th, 2019, after succumbing to colorectal cancer while receiving treatment in Nairobi Hospital.
