Published on September 9, 2019, a Football Kenya Federation (FKF) referee, Maurice Odero, was found dead in a thicket at a remote Kalemnyang village in Loima Sub County, Turkana.

According to his father, John Oduwo, Odero had been stressed over a business partner who had allegedly failed to pay him a significant amount of money for work done in the past.

Mr. Oduwo expressed his shock and disbelief at his son's death, stating, "I am yet to come to terms with the death of my child. I don’t know if really he committed suicide or someone killed him and hanged him on a tree,"

Locals reported that Odero had been troubled and complained about the business partner's threats, which he had informed his wife about whenever he visited them in Iten, Baringo County.

David Nyongesa, a casual worker at the construction site near the scene of the discovery, said Odero looked troubled since Saturday and had gone to make a crucial call but never returned.

Loima Sub County Commissioner Charles Mbulishe confirmed that the police retrieved the body and took it to the Lodwar County and Referral Hospital Mortuary, stating that investigations were ongoing to determine the cause of death.
