On September 9, 2019, a shocking case of alleged defilement came to light in Nyamira County. Nyamira Member of County Assembly (MCA) Fred Nyachae Omayio was charged with defiling a 17-year-old girl.
Appearing before Nyamira Law Courts, MCA Omayio denied the charges and was detained for seven days pending bail ruling. The court heard that on the night of September 2-3, the MCA allegedly defiled the minor at a guest house in Kisii town.
Mr. Omayio also faced an alternative charge of committing an indecent act with a minor contrary to Section 11(1) of the Sexual Offences Act No.3 of 2006. The prosecution opposed his request for bail, citing concerns that he would interfere with witnesses in the case.
The court will rule on bond terms on the next Monday.
