On September 9, 2019, Kenyan gospel musician MCK Official made headlines after revealing he is gay.
MCK Official, known for his hit song 'Mpe Muda,' expressed his pride in being associated with the LGBTQ+ community and his readiness to fight for their rights.
He cited an incident where his friends were humiliated at a Nairobi mall as a catalyst for his decision to come out.
Speaking to Xtian Dela on his YouTube channel, MCK Official stated, 'Why we as Christians chase people who have come out as gay. Why are we discriminating these people instead of supporting them.'
He emphasized the need for a conversation about LGBTQ+ rights, saying, 'This is a conversation that needs to be highlighted. If people don't do it, if it has to start from me then, I will do it.'
MCK Official's revelation has sparked debate, with some Christians condemning his decision as hypocritical, given the Bible's stance on homosexuality.
The Kenyan constitution also prohibits same-sex unions, with offenders facing jail terms.
