Defending champions Butali Sugar Warriors have maintained their unbeaten run and top spot in the men's hockey Premier League standings after defeating Kenya Police 1-0 on Sunday at City Park Stadium.
Francis Kariuki scored the winning goal in the 44th minute, securing Butali's seventh win and third draw in the league, while Kenya Police suffered their fifth loss and three draws.
Butali's victory has improved their tally to 24 points, while Kenya Police stay fourth in the log with 18 points.
Elsewhere, Wazalendo faltered on Sunday, going down 2-1 to a rejuvenated Strathmore University Gladiators, while Nairobi Simbas' woes continued, sinking to relegation zone after losing to USIU-A 1-0.
Butali Sugar Warriors' coach Dennis Owoka praised his team's performance, saying, 'My players expressed themselves better than the other matches but strange enough we didn’t score more goals.'
Owoka also expressed concerns about the playing surface at City Park Stadium, saying, 'Something also needs to be done to the playing surface at City Park since it is getting worse every day and teams can’t execute short corners well.'
