On Sunday, September 8, 2019, Linus Oduor, a Form Three student at St Mathias Boys in Busia, emerged victorious in the Scrabble Kenya Division C tournament held at Chef West Hotel in Busia.
With his impressive performance, Oduor beat a pool of competitors from Kenya and Uganda, including fellow students and amateurs.
Notably, this was not Oduor's first major win, as he had previously held his nerve to win the National Secondary Schools competition in July, posting 12 wins against four loses for a spread of +1107 and earning promotion to Division B.
Marion Awuor came in second with a score of 12-4 +653, while Largus Amukanga completed the podium places with a score of 11-5 +731.
When asked about his win, Oduor stated, "I must admit that it was no easy feat for me. I am using the competition to prepare for the World Scrabble championships in Malaysia in November."
Joshua Barasa and Ian Otieno also qualified for the Kenyan contingent for Malaysia, along with Japheth Wandera.
