On September 8, 2019, Kenya's Brigid Kosgei made history by shattering the women's half-marathon world record at the Great North Run in Tyneside, the United Kingdom.
With a time of 1:04:28, Kosgei broke the previous record set by her compatriot Joyciline Jepkosgei in 2017 by 23 seconds.
Leading a Kenyan sweep of the top four places, Kosgei was followed by Magdalyne Masai in second (1:07:36) and Linet Masai in third (1:07:44).
Meanwhile, Britain's Mo Farah won the men's elite race for a record sixth successive year in 59 minutes 7 seconds, ahead of Ethiopia's Tamirat Tola (59:13) and Abdi Nageeye of Netherlands (59:55).
