British Airways is facing significant disruptions to its schedule due to a strike by its pilots. The strike, which began on Monday 9th September, has resulted in the cancellation of nearly all flights at both London Heathrow and London Gatwick airports.
The airline's management has stated that it had no option but to cancel flights due to the lack of information provided by the British Airline Pilots Association (BALPA) regarding which pilots would be striking and which aircraft they were qualified to fly.
Passengers whose flights have been cancelled are being advised not to travel to the airport and are instead being offered alternative solutions, such as a full refund or re-booking to a different date of travel or alternative airline.
The strike is part of a long-standing dispute between BALPA and British Airways over pay, which has been ongoing since November 2018. BALPA had previously rejected a pay offer of 11.5% over three years, which was accepted by Unite and GMB members.
