Published on September 9, 2019, investigations by MT. KENYA STAR revealed that some of the stalled projects in Embu County have been receiving funding every financial year.

Our visit to Mbeere South Constituency uncovered several health facilities that, according to documents, are complete and running, but do not exist in reality. The three facilities include Wakaria Dispensary, Makima Dispensary, and Kiambeere Health facilities.

Residents of Wakaria village expressed frustration over the incomplete building, which has become a lodging for prostitutes. They demanded to know where the funds set aside for construction and equipping of the dispensary have gone.

Dr. Joan Mwende, Embu County CEC for Health, acknowledged that the devolved government has been facing financial challenges, but assured that they are trying their best to complete the stalled facilities.

Documents revealed that the County government of Embu set aside Sh500, 000 in the 2017/18 financial year for drugs and primary medical equipment at Wakaria Dispensary, but the facility remains incomplete. Similarly, the devolved state completed the male ward at Makima Dispensary for Sh1 million in the 2016/17 financial year, but the structure remains unroofed and incomplete.

Locals in Mbeere South Sub-County are demanding answers on why their health facilities, water projects, and social halls have stalled despite receiving funding.
