On September 9, 2019, Zippie, a Hong Kong blockchain-based mobile wallet and super app, went live across Africa, allowing companies to reward their customers using mobile airtime directly into their blockchain-powered wallets.
Founded by Antti Saarnio, who also created Sailfish OS, Zippie's mission is to democratize opportunity globally by providing universal identity, wallet, and reputation score to everyone. This enables people to trust, share, and trade information, products, and services globally without borders.
Through its white-label 'super app,' Zippie enables any online business to reward users for their online activities, such as shopping, referrals, and completing online surveys. Users can send prepaid airtime micro-rewards for loyalty and referrals, as well as free sharing of rewards and other value without app downloads.
One of Zippie's unique features is that sending value between Zippie wallets is instant, free, and borderless. Users can share a transaction link through any messenger app, even if the recipient doesn't have a Zippie wallet, as one is created automatically when they receive the value.
Zippie has already been integrated with several African companies, including AfriDelivery, Musanga, Java Foods, and Tigmoo. These firms are rewarding their users for purchases, deliveries, and referrals using Zippie's technology.
According to Pasi Rusila, COO & Co-founder of Zippie, the company has achieved its first objective of rewarding users with something of real value. 'Importantly, the market entry provides us also the opportunity to get the Zippie platform to the hands of thousands of end-users within months,' Rusila said.
