Published on September 9, 2019, Peter Orero, a Kibra parliamentary aspirant, is set to face the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party tribunal to contest Bernard Otieno Okoth's win in Saturday's nominations.

Mr. Okoth, the late Kibra MP Ken Okoth's brother, won the ODM primaries with 4,382 votes, while Mr. Orero emerged second with 1,218 votes.

According to a source close to the party, Mr. Orero's appeal is based on a claim that the register used during the primaries was doctored to favor Mr. Okoth, popularly known as Imran.

Mr. Okoth had access to the register while serving at the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) office, where he issued bursary funds to Kibra residents.

ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna confirmed that the party secretariat received an appeal and that the Dispute Resolution Tribunal will hear and determine the case on Monday.

The Kibra by-election is set for November 7, 2019, following the death of former MP Ken Okoth, who succumbed to cancer on July 26, 2019.
