Published on September 9, 2019, a Perth woman's dispute with her neighbors over the smell of barbecued meat and fish has been ongoing since 2017.

Cilla Carden, a vegan massage therapist, has taken her neighbors to court multiple times, but her latest appeal to the Supreme Court of Western Australia was rejected in June.

Carden claims that her neighbors deliberately barbecued meat and fish in their backyard, knowing she couldn't stand the smell, and that the noise from their children playing basketball has left her unable to rest properly.

She also complained about cigarette smoke, reflective lights, and the sounds made by pet birds, stating that the situation has been 'devastating' and 'turmoil' for her.

Supreme Court Chief Justice Peter Quinlan threw out Carden's case, citing that she had filed almost 600 pages of documents in her appeal, which was 'well in excess of anything that might be thought to be proportionate to the issues'.

Carden plans to continue her legal battle against her neighbors, despite the recent rejection.
