On September 9, 2019, police arrested gospel rapper Peter Kagaba, also known as Kamlesh Kagaba, in connection with a Sh72 million bank heist.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Kagaba was arrested alongside two other suspects in a garage where a car suspected to have been used in the heist was being repainted from white to black.

The arrest of Kagaba, who is also the chairperson of the Kenya Holy Hiphop association, has sparked a call for his release from the gospel fraternity, with musicians using the hashtag #FreeKamlesh.
