On Thursday last week, a man in Tharaka Nithi County was arrested for allegedly slaughtering and cooking a dog. The incident occurred in Karimba village, where police found the man boiling part of the dog meat in a sufuria.
According to initial reports, the man, identified as Mr. Martin Munene, had slaughtered the dog out of hunger. However, Tharaka Nithi County Commissioner Beverly Opwora later revealed that the accused had sought retribution against the dog for eating his chicken.
Commissioner Opwora refuted initial reports, stating that the man had recorded a statement with the area chief, claiming that he had committed the act because the dog had eaten his chicken.
Mr. Munene was arrested at his home, where police found other body parts of the dog stored in the house. In his defence, the accused claimed he had not eaten for three days and was preparing to accompany the dog meat with Ugali.
However, Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji later ordered for his immediate release, directing the County Criminal Investigations Officer (CCIO) to liaise with the County Commissioner to provide the man with adequate food.
