Godfrey Kioi, Managing Director at Heritage Insurance Kenya, is a man of discipline and dedication. As he reveals in an interview, his day starts at 4.30am, with a trip to the gym four times a week.
With a background in accounting, Kioi had to adapt to a new role that required him to be more people-oriented. He has been on a journey of self-discovery, learning to articulate his ideas and lead by example.
His leadership style is open and present, and he believes in leading by example. He has been fortunate to have bosses who have modelled this principle, and he has adopted the same approach.
One of the challenges facing the insurance industry is mistrust. Kioi believes that technology can help build trust, and Heritage Insurance has recently launched Auto Correct motor insurance powered by telematics technology.
When asked for career advice, Kioi emphasizes the importance of seeing the bigger picture and aspiring for more. He also stresses the need to have a learning attitude every day and admit that you don’t know everything.
As Kioi adjusts to an empty nest, he is finding time for himself and his hobbies. He is currently reading The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg and is part of a group that is involved in redefining his alma mater.
