On September 9, 2019, a service at Gitu Catholic church in Murang'a was disrupted by a clash between Kamanda and Nyoro over who should be given the authority to invite guests.

The incident sparked a call from Bishop James Maria Wainaina for the cancellation of all church functions attended by politicians.

According to sources, Bishop Wainaina ordered priests serving Muranga and Kirinyaga counties to hold fundraising and functions outside the church.

The directive was acknowledged by the area clergy, who confirmed receiving the instructions from Bishop Wainaina.

The Bishop expressed his disappointment with the incident and called upon the priests to adhere to the orders to maintain the church's dignity.

He also announced that an investigation would be conducted to understand the main cause of the chaos.
