On Sunday, Shabana, a Kisii town-based club, secured their first win of the season by defeating Murang'a Seals 2-1 in the National Super League (NSL) match at Gusii Stadium, marking a significant turnaround after their 2-0 loss to Nairobi City Stars in their first match.
Shabana's head coach, Gilbert Selebwa, attributed their victory to the team's resilience, despite facing a tough opponent. 'Our opponents had high levels of fitness compared to us since we had only one training session,' Selebwa said.
Abour Traore scored the first goal for Shabana in the 11th minute, but Murang'a Seals replied through Wilson Kamau in the 41st minute, sending the match into the break level. Twenty minutes into the second half, Philibert Ochieng netted the winner for Shabana, securing the three points in a match attended by hundreds of sports enthusiasts from the region.
Shabana will next face Modern Coast Rangers in Mombasa, while Murang'a Seals will host Vihiga Bullets in their next matches.
