On September 8, 2019, the Government of National Accord (GNA) in Libya denounced the United Arab Emirates' (UAE) 'hostile position' in the ongoing conflict.

The GNA's statement came a day after the Libyan National Army's (LNA) spokesman, General Ahmed al-Mesmari, held a news conference in Abu Dhabi, where he ruled out a return to negotiations.

"The time of going back to dialogue is over," General al-Mesmari said. "The military solution is the best solution to spread security and reimpose the law."

"The time of going back to dialogue is over," said LNA spokesman General Ahmed al-Mesmari. Libya has been plagued by chaos since the 2011 uprising that led to the death of longtime leader Moamer Kadhafi. In April 2019, Haftar's LNA launched an offensive to capture Tripoli, but five months later, his forces remain stuck on the outskirts of the city. The conflict has resulted in the deaths of at least 1,093 people and wounded 5,752, while over 120,000 others have been displaced, according to the World Health Organization. The GNA accused the UAE of providing a platform for Haftar's supporters, who reject a civil and democratic state in Libya.
