On September 8, 2019, a distressing incident unfolded in Kisii, where a police officer was attacked by a rowdy mob while attempting to rescue a murder suspect.

Constable David Nyamongo, along with six other colleagues from Gesonso Police Station, responded to a call about a man suspected of murder, Vincent Onditi Gwonda, being stoned by locals at Mokwerero area.

However, upon arrival, the officers were met with hostility, with locals armed with pangas, stones, and other crude weapons turning against them.

The situation escalated, forcing the officers to fire 20 rounds of ammunition to rescue the suspect and Constable Nyamongo, who were both rushed to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital.

While the suspect was treated and discharged, Constable Nyamongo remains admitted but in stable condition.
