East Africa Breweries Limited (EABL) has initiated construction of a Ksh1 billion microbrewery at its Ruaraka headquarters in Nairobi, positioning the facility as both an innovation hub and brand experience center. The project, unveiled during a ceremonial groundbreaking event, aligns with the company's year-long celebrations for its 100th anniversary since the 1922 launch of Tusker beer.
Group Managing Director and CEO Jane Karuku emphasized the facility's dual role in advancing brewing innovation and preserving the brand's heritage. The microbrewery will feature production areas, a tasting room with sensory-led sessions, a taproom offering food and entertainment, and a flagship store showcasing locally designed merchandise. Completion is scheduled for December 2022, coinciding with the centenary of EABL's first beer.
"This facility aims to redefine the brewery visitor experience in East Africa," Karuku stated. "It will serve as a platform for crafting novel beverages while honoring our century-long legacy of consumer engagement." The project also includes a beer garden with panoramic views of the Ruaraka area, designed to attract both local and international visitors.
EABL's investment underscores its commitment to fostering brewing talent across Kenya and the Diageo network. The microbrewery will demonstrate the company's expertise in both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage development, with production processes visible to visitors through dedicated exhibition spaces.
