On September 8, 2019, Kenyan police made a significant recovery in the fight against fraud, seizing excavators worth Sh43 million in Mombasa.

The excavators were fraudulently imported into the country from India, with the perpetrators hacking into the email of the vehicles manufacturer's company in London to place an order.

Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti revealed that the excavators were shipped into the country after the fraudsters contacted JCB International, who upon delivering the goods, contacted the brother company in Kenya for payment.

However, it was then that they learnt that the company doesn't deal with such goods, leading to investigations that resulted in the arrest of the prime suspect and the recovery of the excavators.

According to Kinoti, the shipment was done by JCB International, who contacted the brother company in Kenya for payment, unaware that the company didn't deal with such goods.

As the field of excavators becomes increasingly crowded with more manufacturers entering the competition, Chinese firms are putting pressure on traditional heavy machinery manufacturers like Caterpillar, Komatsu, and South Korea's Hyundai Heavy.
