Vallabh Haribhai Bakrania, a British citizen of Indian origin, has been charged with defrauding Mount Kenya University of Sh20 million by allegedly falsely claiming authority to sell a 0.0602-hectare plot in Nairobi's Industrial Area.
The alleged fraud occurred on November 27, 2020, when Bakrania reportedly obtained the funds by pretending to have the legal capacity to transfer land valued at Sh200 million to the university, according to court records.
Bakrania appeared before Milimani Chief Magistrate Wendy Kagendo and denied the charges. The court ordered him to post a Sh1 million bond or surrender his British passport as conditions for release.
The case will return to court on May 19 for pre-trial preparations. The development was reported in 2022 by Nairobi Times, a media outlet registered under Kenya's Companies Act of 2015.
