On Sunday, September 8, 2019, Kenyan athlete Brigid Kosgei made history by setting a new half marathon world record during the Great North Run in the UK.

She clocked an impressive 1:04:28, surpassing the previous world record of 1:04:51 held by compatriot Joyciline Jepkosgei, who achieved the feat in 2017.

Notably, New York Marathon champion Mary Keitany, who is also the women's only world record holder in marathon, came in fourth with a time of 67:58.
