On September 8, 2019, the Nation Classic Golf series concluded its fourth leg at the Eldoret Golf Club course, where Elgeyo Marakwet County Assembly Speaker Philemon Sabulei took home the overall prize.
Playing off a handicap of 24, Sabulei, who practices golf at least three times a week, posted an impressive score of 39 points despite the challenging course conditions.
However, Sabulei's start was slow, with 16 points in the first nine holes, where he made several double bogeys. But he bounced back with a strong performance in the back nine, making several pars and a birdie at the 17th hole to close with 23 points.
"I'm glad I was able to emerge as the overall winner despite a slow start," Sabulei said, thanking his team for their encouragement.
Simon Chepkwony of Nandi Bears finished second with 37 points, while Jackson Kiprono of Eldoret took the second spot in the men's section with 36 points.
Speaking at the prize-giving ceremony, club vice chairman Moses Tanui thanked the Nation Media Group for its continued support of golf in the country.
