On a chilly Saturday night in Nairobi, hundreds of young fans gathered at the Ngong Racecourse for the Hype Fest concert headlined by Jamaican dancehall star Konshens.
Despite the cold, many female ravers turned up dressed skimpily, leaving little to the imagination. The atmosphere was relaxed, with weed being smoked freely, even in the presence of the police.
The concert also attracted celebrities such as footballer-turned-politician McDonald Mariga, Lang'ata MP Nixon Korir, and Senator Aaron Cheruiyot.
Local acts like The Boondocks Gang, Gwaash, and Ochunglo Family took to the stage, performing semi-nude dance routines that got the crowd hyped. The Kansoul, Sailors of the Wamlambez hit, and the Sol Generation duo of Nviiri the Storyteller and Bensoul also performed to a packed crowd.
Ethic warmed up the stage for Konshens, who performed around 2am. The Bruk off yah back hitmaker's performance did not disappoint, with fans screaming and shouting throughout the night.
One of the highlights of the night was when Konshens performed tunes like Gal A bubble, which were occasionally backed up by his well-endowed semi-nude female dancer.
The show lived up to its expectations, according to ravers who spoke to Nairobi News, but it definitely wasn't what Kenyan moral policeman Ezekiel Mutua would approve of.
