On September 7, 2019, Okoth Bernard Otieno, also known as Imran, secured the ODM nomination ticket for the Kibra by-election, which is scheduled to take place on November 7.

Imran received 4,382 votes, surpassing the other nine aspirants who were vying for the ODM party ticket during the nomination exercise.

Returning Officer Dr. Julius Oremo issued Imran with a provisional certificate, confirming his victory.

Other notable candidates included Peter Orero, who garnered 1,218 votes, and John Milla Otieno, who came in third with 966 votes.

Imran will face off against seasoned footballer-turned-politician McDonald Mariga, who will be flying the Jubilee Party's ticket, as well as Eliud Owalo of the Amani National Congress Party and Eng. Khamisi Butichi of Ford Kenya.

The Kibra parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of the area Member of Parliament Ken Okoth on July 26, 2019.
