On a recent Sunday, I had the pleasure of visiting Planet Picnic, a restaurant and bar tucked away in the leafy Karen Connection business park.
Recommended by Eamon Mullen, a renowned chef and author of 'A Celebrity Chef in Africa', I was eager to try out the place.
As I entered the cozy roofed area near the bar, I was greeted by Neil McCarthy, the owner and a seasoned chef with experience in top hotels around the UK and Kenya.
Neil introduced me to a group of regular customers, and we chatted about Eamon's recommendation and Neil's culinary background.
After ordering from the menu, which features a range of dishes from English breakfast to German sausage platters, I was treated to a delicious Full English Breakfast, complete with fried eggs, crispy bacon, sausages, black pudding, and fried tomatoes.
At Sh850, it was excellent value, and I was impressed by the reasonable prices across the menu.
As I enjoyed my coffee, I overheard a customer order roast beef and Yorkshire pudding, a dish that I was initially hesitant about but was eager to try on my next visit.
However, the menu at Planet Picnic is much more eclectic than I initially thought, with options ranging from daily organic salad bars to homemade tortilla tacos and German sausage platters.
For those familiar with Neil's cooking, the Phoenix Burger with beer-battered onion rings is a must-try, and the picnic boxes are a speciality, packed with imagination and style.
