Facebook has expanded its reach in the world of online dating, launching its dating service in the United States on Thursday, September 5, 2019.

The social media giant first introduced Facebook Dating in Colombia last year, and it has since been available in 19 other countries.

Now, US users aged 18 and above can access the service as a new tab within the Facebook mobile app.

Users can create a separate profile for the dating service, which will present them with potential matches based on their location, preferences, and other factors.

One unique feature of the app is the ability to match with people who attend the same Facebook events or are part of the same Facebook groups.

However, users will not be able to see their Facebook friends in the app unless they use the 'secret crush' feature, which allows them to express interest in a maximum of nine Facebook friends or Instagram followers.

Facebook Dating is free, with no advertisements or in-app purchases.

According to Facebook product lead Nathan Sharp, the company aimed to create a service that focuses on conversations rather than swiping or games.

With the US launch, Facebook Dating is now available in 20 countries, and the company plans to roll out the service in Europe early next year.
