Kakamega Homeboyz remain in contention for their first FKF Premier League title after a 2-0 loss to AFC Leopards in the Ingo Derby, which took place at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega. The defeat halted their bid to extend their lead as Tusker FC remained idle in the 15th edition of the derby.
Collins Shivachi and Kingsley Olaniyi scored the decisive goals for AFC Leopards, securing a 2-0 victory that left Homeboyz tied with Tusker at 57 points after 31 rounds. However, Tusker holds a four-goal advantage in goal difference, keeping them ahead in the standings.
Homeboyz coach Bernard Mwalala acknowledged the setback but emphasized the team's determination to clinch the 2021-2022 league title. "We're still in the title fight. Football is unpredictable, but we won't give up until the final whistle," he said. Mwalala reiterated the squad's focus on winning their remaining two matches against FC Talanta and Kariobangi Sharks to maintain their championship aspirations.
The outcome could see the title decided by goal difference if Tusker wins their final two games against Bidco United and Posta Rangers. Meanwhile, Bandari remain in the race after drawing 0-0 with Ulinzi Stars, sitting three points behind the leaders with 54 points.
The relegation battle also remains tight, with Wazito suffering a 2-0 home loss to Bidco United. The 16th-placed side now faces Vihiga Bullets in their final match, with the result likely determining automatic relegation or a playoff spot.
