On September 7, 2019, Kisumu County Speaker George Onyango Oloo was arrested by police in Mombasa in connection with a Sh2.5 billion LBDA mall scandal.

According to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Mr. Oloo was being sought for questioning in relation to the scandal, which had been under investigation since July 28, 2015.

Mr. Oloo, who was accompanied by several members of the Kisumu County Assembly, presented himself to the Central Police Station in Mombasa at around 2 pm on Saturday.

He was subsequently taken into police custody, where he will remain until further notice.

Others who have already been arrested in connection with the scandal include Bobasi MP Innocent Obiri and Erdemann Property Ltd Managing Director John Zeyung Yang.

The investigation, which was concluded last week, revealed that LBDA did not involve the Ministry of Public Works at any stage of the project's execution.

It was also alleged that Erdemann Properties Ltd directors gave LBDA Board chairman George Onyango Oloo Sh17 million, apartments, and shops in bribes.
