On September 7, 2019, a significant development took place in the Mombasa Law Courts, marking a new chapter in the ongoing saga of missing narcotics.

Principal Magistrate Edgar Kagoni found himself at the center of a major scandal after 10kgs of heroin worth Sh30 million and Sh600,000 in cash went missing from the exhibits store.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Magistrate Kagoni was arrested following an investigation into the missing narcotics.

Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji announced that Kagoni would face charges of obstruction with intent to defeat justice and aiding and abetting trafficking of narcotic drugs.

"The said exhibits which were recorded as cash money and drugs were found missing from the exhibit store on diverse dates between June 28, 2019, and July 26, 2019," Haji stated in a statement.

Magistrate Kagoni is being held at Kilindini Port police station, while his co-accused, Abdalla Awadh Abubakar, Lawrence Thoya Bayan, and Onesmus Momanyi, are being held at Makupa police station, Nyali police station, and ICD Nairobi, respectively, pending arraignment on Monday.
