On September 7, 2019, a significant breakthrough was made in the Ksh 72 Million Nairobi ATM heist case, with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) recovering millions and arresting two police officers.

Among those arrested is Constable Chris Ayienda Machogu, who was found with Ksh4 million. Additionally, Constable Vincent Owuor of the Administration Police was arrested, and Ksh3 million was recovered at his house in Kendu Bay.

According to the DCI, the duo was planning to escape into Uganda with their loot. A motor vehicle reportedly bought on the same day of the heist using the stolen money was also recovered.

"Detectives investigating the matter have established that the Subaru Forester was bought on the same day of the heist using the stolen money. The two suspects were planning to travel to Uganda with the cash. They are in our custody awaiting arraignment," DCI posted on Twitter.
