Published on September 7, 2019, the Netherlands' Euro 2020 qualifying campaign received a significant boost with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Germany in Hamburg.

Serge Gnabry gave Germany an early lead, but Frenkie de Jong and Jonathan Tah's own goal turned the game in the Netherlands' favor.

Germany thought they had secured a draw through Toni Kroos' penalty, awarded for a disputed handball against De Jong, but the Netherlands had other plans.

Debutant substitute Donyell Malen sealed the win with a superb finish, and Georginio Wijnaldum added a third in added time to seal the victory.

The Netherlands' win, their first in Germany since 2002, means Joachim Low's side miss out on top spot in the group, which remains with Northern Ireland.

The Dutch are now three points behind the second-placed Germans with a game in hand, and with two matches against Northern Ireland to come, they are firmly back in the running for top spot.
