On the night of September 7, 2019, nine cows were stolen and slaughtered in Matuu estate, Matungulu West, leaving residents shocked and demanding action from the authorities.

Dozens of residents woke up to a gruesome scene of intestines, hoofs, and other parts of slaughtered animals strewn all over. The thieves are believed to have struck at night, leaving behind no trace of their identity.

Residents, led by Dominic Masaku, decried the increasing incidents of stock theft and called for intensified security patrols. Masaku urged the government to increase the number of officers to tackle the rising cases of animal theft.

Area Sub-County Police Commander Kipkemoi Kirui assured residents that officers have been deployed in the area to investigate the incident. It is believed that the meat from the stolen livestock is being taken to Nairobi's Eastlands.
