On Saturday, police in Nyamira arrested Magwagwa Ward Representative Fred Nyachae Omaiyo over an allegation of defilement.
According to Nyamira County Commissioner Amos Mariba, the 17-year-old victim, a Form Four student from a Kisumu school, went missing a few days ago before claiming she had been abducted.
‘The girl’s mother had reported at Ekerenyo Police Station that her daughter was missing. But the girl later showed up claiming she had been abducted and detained by the said MCA at a Kisii hotel,’ Mr Mariba said.
The girl was examined at Ekerenyo Sub-County Hospital and Mr Omaiyo is currently in police custody, set to be arraigned on Monday.
Mr Omaiyo has a history of controversy, having been arrested in January this year for disrupting a meeting in Kisumu.
