On September 6, 2019, a shocking incident occurred in Girard, Ohio, where an American woman shot and wounded her 18-year-old daughter, who had arrived home from college for an unannounced visit.
According to local police, the mother, who was home alone and armed with a licensed.38 Special revolver, mistook her daughter for an intruder after hearing noise coming from the kitchen or hallway.
Police Chief John Norman stated that the mother 'had a gun readily available and fired a round at someone coming through the door,' believing it to be an intruder.
However, it was later revealed that the 'someone' was actually her daughter, who was hit in the arm but survived the incident.
The mother was reportedly shocked to learn that she had shot her own daughter, and a local district attorney will decide whether to bring charges.
Gun ownership is widespread in the US, with around 40,000 people dying from gunfire in 2017, according to government figures.
