On September 6, 2019, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) agreed to delay the public hearing of a case in which Somalia has sued Kenya over a maritime boundary dispute.
The delay was granted after Kenya requested more time to recruit a new legal team, citing its inability to be adequately represented in the case.
According to the ICJ, the public hearings for the case will now open on November 4, instead of the previously scheduled September 9.
Kenya's Attorney-General, Kihara Kariuki, had requested the delay, stating that the country needed time to recruit a new defence team due to exceptional circumstances.
The case, which involves a dispute over a maritime boundary between Kenya and Somalia, had been scheduled for hearing next week, with the ICJ expected to deliver a verdict by September 19.
