On September 6, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta made a series of changes in his government, affecting nine principal secretaries in a mini reshuffle.
Among those moved was Maj-Gen (Rtd) Gordon Kihalangwa, who was transferred from the Immigration Department to the Defence Department in July, and is now set to become the chief accounting officer at the State Department for Public Works.
Dr Ibrahim Mohamed takes up the position of Maj-Gen Rtd Kihalangwa, moving from the Environment and Forestry Department to the Defence Department.
State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena announced the changes, stating, "In order to enhance efficiency and service delivery, His Excellency the President of the Republic of Kenya and the Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces Uhuru Kenyatta has made the following changes in Government affecting Principal Secretaries."
The reshuffle comes as President Kenyatta is reportedly growing impatient with the slow pace of his legacy projects, known as the Big Four Agenda.
Other principal secretaries moved include Prof Paul Maringa, who was transferred from the State Department for Public Works to the Infrastructure Department, and Ms Betty Maina, who moved from the Industrialisation Department to the Environment and Forestry Department.
