Obesity is a growing concern in Kenya, with one in every four men affected and two in every five having expanded abdominal girth. According to Eric Amunga, a fat loss and men's health specialist, obesity is when an individual's body mass index (BMI) is above 29.

Eric's own journey with obesity began when he was in his adult life, with his weight fluctuating between 68 and 75 kilogrammes. However, after developing a habit of eating frequently and consuming simple carbohydrates, his weight ballooned to 117 kgs with a BMI of 43.

He started experiencing a range of health-related issues, including lethargy, man-boobs, constant backaches, and rising blood sugar levels. Eric's depression and poor sex life prompted him to take action and embark on a weight loss journey.

With the help of endocrinologists and a lot of research, Eric developed a strategy he calls the trilogy of fat loss. This involves modifying his diet by avoiding simple carbohydrates and processed foods, changing his behaviour towards food by only eating when hungry and drinking plenty of water, and exercising regularly.

Eric's weight loss journey was remarkable, with him losing 45 kgs in just eight months. He attributes his success to the consistency and determination he put into the process, losing between four and five kgs every month or one kilogramme every week.

Eric is now a fat loss and men's health specialist, focusing on helping obese men lose excessive fat. He has formed social media platforms to talk about fat loss in men and issues related to men's health, with one such forum scheduled for November 2 in Nairobi.
