On September 6, 2019, Meru Chief Magistrate Hannah Ndung'u handed down a 15-year jail sentence to three men found guilty of sodomising a 17-year-old boy in a police cell two years prior.
The court heard that Dickson Murangiri, Geoffrey Mutethia, and Boniface Kimathi lured the teenager to the toilet and molested him in turns, threatening to kill him if he raised the alarm.
The boy was being held on allegations of physical assault at the time of the incident.
Prosecution witnesses, including Dr Stephen Chege, a medic at Meru Level Five Hospital, and Sergeant Domitila Mulwa, a police officer, corroborated the minor's testimony.
The court also heard that Murangiri and Kimathi were serving 20-year jail terms each for a separate crime committed in 2012 in Igembe North.
