Tanzania's Air Tanzania Suspends Flights to Johannesburg Amid Ongoing Violence

Published on September 6, 2019, Air Tanzania suspended its flights from Dar es Salaam to Johannesburg, citing ongoing violence in South Africa as a risk to passenger safety.

Tanzania's Transport Minister, Isack Kamwelwe, stated that the decision was made due to the ongoing violence, where at least seven people have been killed and hundreds of arrests have been made.

Minister Kamwelwe emphasized that the safety of passengers is the top priority, saying, "You are aware that there is ongoing violence in South Africa whereby the youth have taken laws in their hands."

Anti-immigrant violence in South Africa has resulted in widespread unrest, with hundreds of arrests and several fatalities.
